Volunteers are prime movers in path plan

The construction of a new ‘green route’ which will run from Cumbernauld Town Centre to Abronhill will be enabled by a hard-working environmental group.

Volunteers from Cumbernauld Living Landscape have been instrumental in creating the new £551,000 project from the consultation stage onwards and will continue to play a key part in the works.

Fiona Mc Grevey, project manager for Cumbernauld Living Landscape, explained: “The consultation process involved engaging local people in walking tours, group workshops and design workshops so it’s great to see the feedback from the community coming to life.

“Over the next six months we’ll be delivering a series of guided walks along the route and engaging with local schools to highlight the benefits of using nature as a ‘natural health service.”

Two underpasses and a bridge in Kildrum will also be revamped as part of this ambitious programme of works which also aims to promote cycling.
