Waterstones to launch Silverburn bookshop this weekend

On Sunday, September 22, Waterstones will mark the opening of its new bookshop at Silverburn shopping centre with a day of celebrations.

At 11.45am the popular character from the bestselling children’s picture book The Gruffalo will cut the ribbon to officially declare the bookshop open.

The Gruffalo will then be guest of honour at a special storytelling afternoon to be held in the shopping centre between 12pm to 4pm within the Silverburn mall.

The celebrations will continue with the return of The Gruffalo to Waterstones Silverburn on Saturday 12th October to launch a week of half-term activities. Children’s events will run daily from 12pm throughout the October school holiday, with activities inspired by a different theme each day including space, unicorns and Halloween. The events will be free of charge but places are limited and should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.

Our new bookshop is wonderful, offering shoppers a relaxing and inviting space, perfect for browsing. We are so excited to be opening in Silverburn, our booksellers are keen to share their love of books and reading and we are looking forward to giving customers a warm welcome .”

Lana and fellow Bookshop Manager Steven Dawson will lead a bookselling team of sixteen, with ten new bookselling roles created at the 5000 sq ft bookshop.

Waterstones Silverburn will offer a handpicked range of books, stationery and gifts and will host book launches, signings and events to give readers of all ages the opportunity to meet favourite authors. The large, well-stocked children’s department will be an engaging and family friendly space where regular story times and activities will inspire children to develop a love of books.

The launch of the new Silverburn bookshop comes as part of a wider investment by Waterstones in its Glasgow estate, with the refurbishment of its bookshops at Newton Mearns and Braehead Shopping Centre also underway this autumn.
