Blazing a new trail at Academy

The morning saw first to third year pupils compete in an inter-class cross country race for individual medals and an overall class winner, with three boys and three girls represented each class.

The new route saw them run around the school, through Craigton Woods, up Douglas Muir Drive and back into the school grounds.

The route was stewarded by members of staff, Sports Council members and 6th year Sports Leaders, while the senior pupils did a sterling job in supporting staff throughout the race.

Results –

Gold – Orla Doherty 1B, Grace Maclean 2A, Ellie Hinks 3B, Euan Lamond 1A, Ross Smith 2C, Euan Chapman 3B

Silver – Eilidh Walker 1A, Orla Johnson 2D. Ruby Imrie 3D, Dominic Morgan 1B, Devan Miller 2F, Jamie Fettes 3F

Bronze – Olivia King 1B, Jane Hawkins 2B, Orla Vennard 3D, Matthew Ireland 1B,

Tyrese Smith 2D, Kyle McInnes 3A

The overall winners were class ‘B’ (1B, 2B & 3B)

In the afternoon the associated primaries arrived for their event. All primary schools entered eight runners – four boys and four girls with the top two of each to count towards the team total.

Pupils warmed up and set off from the back of the school running the same route with the first runners finishing in just under 11 minutes.

Afterwards pupils and staff were given refreshments in the Social Space and then head teacher, Barry Smedley presented the medals.

Again top three boys and top three girls were given medals and every runner received a Douglas Academy Mug.

Winning school Craigdhu took home the gold medals.
