The 15-year-old fourth year pupil lives with spine curvature but has never let it hold back her ballet dancing dreams.

Despite needing surgery on her spine during her exams, Amy bravely decided to postpone the operation so she could not only sit nine National 5 exams, but also sit Higher Dance.

Amy has since had her surgery, made a full recovery and secured a place in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for Ballet.

She said: “I was so shocked and happy that all the work was worth it. Dancing feels like home and my dancing family is my second family. I spend a lot of my spare time dancing so it was hectic having to study at the same time. It was scary and hard facing the prospect of surgery before sitting my exams, but I just had to concentrate and work hard because surgery might have taken away my dance, but I wasn’t going to let it take my grades as well.

“I didn’t know what lay ahead but surgery and recovery went well and I will be dancing again in September. I look forward to starting 5th year and continuing my education.”
