Forth Primary School – nostalgic end to old building

AFTER just one year short of a century and a half of service to the village, the old Forth Primary School richly deserved a big send-off.

And that’s exactly what the venerable old building got last weekend when former pupils from generations past came to say their farewells.

They were given a chance to do so thanks to a superb display of old photos and other memorabilia gathered from the 149 years of the school’s existence just off the village Main Street.

Just behind it, the new replacement Forth Primary is nearly ready to open its doors to educate future generations but the focus over the weekend was very firmly on the past.

Many an old school tale was recalled and retold as the visitors to the display over Friday and Saturday came to view the exhibition staged by the School Parent Council.

It also produced a lavishly-illustrated 64 page book, looking back at the history of the school, founded in the middle of the reign of Queen Victoria and at a time when Forth was still very much a mining and iron-founding community.
