High School of Glasgow pupils are class act to help people in need

Big-hearted pupils at a school in Bearsden pulled together to help people less fortunate then themselves.

The Junior School pupils from The High School of Glasgow, donated more than 30 boxes of food and toiletry donations to local charities.

Every year, pupils from The High School of Glasgow Junior School take part in a Harvest Week collection for selected charities.

This year, their nominated charities included the Salvation Army Day Care Centre, East Dunbartonshire Food Bank and Focal Point, 
Drumchapel.

Focal Point is a day service for older people and is provided by Glasgow City Council.

The service aims to 
promote social stimulation and prevent isolation detrimental to physical and mental health.

It also aims to provide specialist support and care to people with dementia and additional needs.

East Dunbartonshire Food Bank was founded by local churches and community groups, who work together towards stopping hunger in the local area.

The Salvation Army Day Care Centre provides specialised support to older people with dementia and their families.

Pupils from the Junior School spent the week collecting a mixture of tinned foods, cupboard essentials, toiletry items from home, neighbours and friends.

To round off the week, 
individuals from the nominated charities were presented with boxes of essential items to help those in need.
