Langside Nursery School benefits from storytelling bursary

Stewart Milne Homes launched the competition to celebrate national Sharea-Story month and called on primary schools and nurseries across central Scotland to share their best-loved stories.

Langside Nursery School was one of four winning entries, selected from over 40, to benefit from the £1,000 bursary set up by the housebuilder to celebrate and encourage reading, with the nursery being awarded £250 to spend on new books.

The winning entry was ‘Rainbow Fish’ by Martin Pfister with youngsters commenting they chose the story thanks to its messages including sharing, being kind, accepting peoples’ differences and the importance of friendship.

Commenting, Ida,3, said: “I liked the funny octopus and the shiny scales the best”.

Linda Huisman, Head Teacher at Langside Nursery School, said: “We are so pleased with the donation from Stewart Milne Homes and can’t wait to add to our growing book collection. The Rainbow Fish deals with matters that all children find difficult such as sharing, in a very simple, straightforward way which helps the children to understand the importance of treating others with kindness and building friendships.”

It is fantastic to see so many children getting involved and sharing their love of reading from such an early age. Stewart Milne Homes will be asking the public to help select their favourite story from a shortlist of the most popular entries.
