The online petition protesting against North Lanarkshire Council’s plans to move the Redburn School nursery to Baird Memorial Primary School continues to find backers.

By Friday morning over 730 people had signed the petition, which is titled “North Lanarkshire Council: Help to stop the closure of the Nursery at Redburn School”. This was started by Andy Dodds, whose daughter attends the nursery, and can be found on website change, org.

The council plans to close the present nursery class, which provides services for children with additional support needs. At the start of the next school year pupils would instead be taught at the Baird Memorial nursery, which also specialises in ASN provision. It is anticipated that three pupils would be transferred with the rest due to leave nursery.

It should be noted that replies to a petition are not considered objections by North Lanarkshire Council. Anyone wishing to have their views on this issue considered by them is advised to participate in the ongoing public consultation. Send your opinion, in writing, to: Redburn School Nursery Class Consultation, Learning & Leisure Services, Municipal Buildings, Kildonan Street, Coatbridge, by no later than 24 April 2014. Alternatively, comments can be submitted by e-mail to redburnnurservconsultation~northhlan,gov.uk.
