Parents anger after decisions delayed on school placing requests in East Dunbartonshire

Concern has been raised by parents after being told they will have to wait another month for a decision on East Dunbartonshire school placing requests.

East Dunbartonshire Council tweeted yesterday (Tuesdday, April 28): “New time limits for decisions on placing requests for the School Session 2020/21 mean applicants should be notified of decisions by Friday 31 May 2020.”

The information on the council website reads:

“The Scottish Government has issued regulations relating to placing requests for schools’ admissions for the School Session 2020/21. The new regulations amend the time limits in relation to making decisions on placing requests and in hearing appeals against refusals of placing requests.

“The new deadline whereby the Council is required to notify applicants of decisions on placing requests for the School Session 2020/21 is now 31 May 2020.

“The Council is working to process all applications and to develop appeal procedures taking account of the restrictions due to coronavirus (Covid-19).

“The Council will keep placing request applicants informed of any further developments through updates on the website and through social media channels.”

Two residents responded to the council on Twitter.

One tweeted: “Surely this process was nearly complete prior to lockdown? Are none of your staff working from home? This is added stress for many families two days before deadline. This is disappointing.”

Another tweeted: “Totally agree. Forms have been submitted for months and you must have people working from home otherwise why are we still paying full council tax?

“More uncertainty just what people want to hear right now. Well done edc as per usual.”

The Herald has contacted the council and is awaiting its response.
