THEY do say that he’s been doing it for so long, Santa’s beard didn’t have a white hair in it the first time he came to Carluke on Christmas Eve.

That might just be a wee bit of an exaggeration but, certainly, the tradition has been going on for at least six decades now.

And no matter how many times before it’s happened, the excitement of the latest generation of young Carlukians at his arrival was as high-pitched as ever this year.

Santa handed out an orange to each of the youngsters which occasionally drawing back his hood to listen to a whispered request for a special gift.
