Legendary puppet favourite Sooty has written to the News to inform us that he’s on a mission to recruit an army of Sooty volunteers in aid of Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB.

Thousands of mini Sooties have been collecting small change all over the UK since the 1960s, but RNIB needs to find new homes for these very special collection boxes more than ever. Every day in the UK 100 people start to lose their sight, but RNIB can only help one in three people who need their support.

Sooty says: “If you are able, give your time as often as you can on the days that you choose. One day a month would make a big difference – more would be fantastic. “It is a fun and rewarding way to make the most of free time and help ‘sweep’ up vital funds for RNIB. Access to a car is essential, mileage costs and out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed.”
