Amazing May (93) survives Covid-19

A 93-year old woman from Bellshill has soundly beaten the Coronavirus and has triumphantly returned to her home after being discharged from hospital.

Mrs May Adair was applauded by cheering staff at University Hospital Monklands after being judged fit enough to be discharged.

And she is now being looked after for by her team of care workers from Mears, who have worked for the family since 2015.

Remarkably May is a carer herself who has been looking after her son for 18 years.

Mears Local manager Nyree Doyle explained: “May was admitted to hospital after she suffered a fall. As as part of the procedure, she was routinely tested for Covid- 19.

“She became quite poorly with the virus, spending time within the intensive care unit and on a ventilator.

“Yet, remarkably given her age, she pulled through. We are so pleased for her.”

Sharon McGrady, who is senior charge nurse at Monklands, said: “Everyone here involved in the care of Mrs Adair in the last three weeks is delighted she has been able to return home.

“She is an amazing lady and her positive outlook made a real impression on our staff. As she is a carer to her son, she was so motivated and determined to beat the virus so she could return home to him. All our staff wish her all the best for the future.”

May is Bellshill’s second high profile success story in regard to the virus.

Last week we reported that three week old Peyton Maguire who was born eight weeks premature had survived Covid-19. She is thought to be youngest patient in Scotland to do so.
