Charity delivers afternoon teas by Gary the Kosher Chef in East Renfrewshire and Glasgow

Cosgrove recently held its first afternoon tea with volunteers delivering delicious afternoon teas made by Gary the Kosher Chef across East Renfrewshire and Glasgow.

More than 150 people who were able to enjoy this traditional summer treat in the comfort of their home, with many able to meet up with family and friends at a sensible social distance in their gardens.

The afternoon tea proved to be a fantastic way to bring a bit of joy to people while also raising funds for the charity to continue its community support.

Teas were bought for family groups and some also gifted teas as a surprise for their loved ones.

Heather Gray, chief executive of Cosgrove Care, said: “The afternoon tea was a fantastic way to connect people while maintaining social distancing, and was a lovely way to both raise funds for the charity’s community support while providing a nice service.”

Cosgrove Care has also continued its work to support local communities impacted as a result of the Coronavirus crisis.

The charity is working intensively to support people who are self-isolating and cannot go to their usual supports or who are social distancing as a result of having underlying conditions.

In addition to this, as the community moves towards the next phase of response to the crisis, Cosgrove has been working to provide support and activities that ensure that despite the current situation, people have the opportunity for engagement and do not feel socially isolated despite having to self isolate.

Cosgrove works with people from the local community with a range of support needs, and has been delighted that they have been involved in initiatives such as the afternoon tea, online classes, quizzes and hangouts, and the summer activity programme.

These are all activities that will continue to grow and develop in the coming months to provide the community with a variety of ways to stay connected during these difficult times.

Over the past 15 weeks, Cosgrove Care has delivered over nearly 1,500 volunteer engagements to the community, including shopping, welfare phone calls, delivering books and papers.
