Elderly care home vaccinations complete across Greater Glasgow and Clyde

A toal of 6,019 residents in 143 care homes for the elderly have received the vaccination so far.

This represents over 90% of all elderly care home residents within Glasgow City, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, West Dunbartonshire and East Dunbartonshire.

A small number of residents were unable to be vaccinated initially, due to issues such as ill health. When those clinical circumstances have improved, teams will administer more vaccinations to both residents and care home staff.

Jane Grant, the Chief Executive of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “This is fantastic news. We all know the impact that COVID has had on our elderly communities and, while there is much still to do to beat this virus, the completion of the first round of vaccinations within our care homes for the elderly is something we can be rightly proud of.

“I want to congratulate everyone who has been involved in rolling out the vaccine to care home residents across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. It has been an incredible effort from our teams across many areas, both clinical and non-clinical groups and I want to thank each and every one of them. I also want to pay tribute to teams within each Health and Social Care Partnership and all those working within care homes for the elderly in helping with the vaccination roll-out who are doing such a tremendous job.”
