Cumbernauld Resilience happy to do double duty

More than 20,000 meals have been delivered since mid-March by Cumbernauld Resilience, but its dynamic volunteer army won’t rest on its laurels.

Feeling that there is no end to the lockdown in sight, the group is redoubling its efforts in its ongoing quest to help.

And that can involve more than one visit per household per week if required.

Organiser James McPhilemy explained: “This crisis has been hard for so many people, not least those that have been unable to leave the house to collect food or other essentials.

“Our volunteers will be delighted to arrange a weekly, or twice weekly, delivery of food for anyone who needs it.”

His colleague Maureen Avis, who is involved in preparing the parcels, added: “Each one contains at least nine meals per person, including a selection of freshly cooked and nutritious dinners, as well as other household essentials.

“If you’re receiving a twice-weekly delivery, we’ll add a bit extra in to ensure that everyone in the household is able to have three meals a day, each day of the week.”

Another helper Tilda Murphy said: “We must thank everyone who has helped make that possible, from the army of volunteers who help cook meals, prepare parcels, answer the helpline and make deliveries to everyone who has donated so far, especially our regular donors, Paul’s Quality Butchers and South East Traders.”

Anyone who requires help is asked to call the hotline on 07707 860 976 or email [email protected].

These are the same for anyone who feels that they can help the group in any way.

And those who can make a small financial donation to support the service, can do so at: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/suzanne-macleod.

Readers in Kilsyth are being reminded that volunteers are running a similar delivery service. For more information on how to access this or indeed to help the group, call 07467 590 918.
