Fears for Lanark Out-of-Hours service

THERE are fears that the NHS Out-of-Hours Lanark satellite is to close, with patients having to travel to Wishaw General for appointments when their local GP practices are shut at the evenings and weekends.

NHS Lanarkshire has now arranged a meeting on the service – in Bothwell!

In a statement this week, it said that patients and carers would be discussing how to improve the Out-of-Hours services.

Reader Susan Girvan contacted the Gazette to say that the NHS planned to shut the Out-of-Hours service at Lanark Health Centre permanently.

“This means that all urgent appointments are based at Wishaw General now, which is far to travel for everyone, especially those who rely on public transport,” she said.

“If someone needed an appointment on a Sunday and had no car, they would only have one train an hour that takes 25 minutes to get there.

“It would also mean an even further trip for those in Carstairs or Biggar.”
