Health services transfer to Lanarkshire following boundary changes

Health board boundaries for these areas changed on April 1 this year, transferring responsibility from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to NHS Lanarkshire.

Colin Sloey, executive director of strategic planning and performance, NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Although the boundaries changed earlier this year, October 1 was identified as a key handover date for many services to ensure the transition was as smooth as possible for patients and staff.

“Throughout the transfer process we have worked closely with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to ensure that people continue to have access to high quality local health services. We will now focusing on building on existing services to ensure we are delivering a consistent and equitable standard of care throughout Lanarkshire.”

Among those services transferring on October 1 in both areas are: community children’s nursing services; paediatric occupational therapy; paediatric physiotherapy; community midwifery; learning disabilities community services; and speech and language therapy for adults.

The directories include the details of those services which transferred previously and those that will transfer at a later date.

Catriona Renfrew, director of corporate planning and policy, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: “People will continue to have access to the services and care that they need in the locations that are convenient to them. For the majority of services, their GP will continue to be the first point of contact.

“Patients in these areas will also be able to continue to access Glasgow acute hospital services. In addition, we will continue to provide some other services that cannot be transferred through a Service Level Agreement with NHS Lanarkshire.”
