How Rebecca made a mint for Macmillan

Cumbernauld make-up student Rebecca Rodger still can’t belief her selfless charity bid - launched in memory of a friend - has been such a runaway success.

Perhaps it’s because Rebecca’s fine head of - green - hair was such a noticeable feature, but she decided it could all go in the aid of a good cause.

“She gained sponsorship for the hair shave to gain funds for Macmillan Cancer Support,” said her mum Linda.

“It was the most positive way of remembering a good friend, Tania Macdonald, who passed away from breast cancer aged just 34.”

Hairdresser Lyndsay Nixon at Scragg hairdresser in Cumbernauld village was happy to wield the scissors for Rebecca’s effort - and in place of her former green flowing locks she was left with a very close-cropped head.

A video of the ordeal achieved astronomic numbers of hits, and - boosted by Tesco shoppers, friends and family - donations for her appeal started rolling in.

She was delighted to join Tesco community champion Caherine Drummond in handing over a cheque for a few pence under £790 to Macmillan Cancer Support - but the final tally will be higher still.
