The baby’s parents called Specsavers for advice after self-isolating as their three-year-old had symptoms of Covid-19.

They were unable to visit the store or their local hospital, so Neil Drain, optometrist director at Specsavers in Bishopbriggs, treated the baby on the doorstep of their home.

Neil said: ‘A small piece of paper became stuck in the baby’s eye and his parents were unable to remove it. His eye became red and irritated and his parents called me for advice.

“It was important to treat the baby but also to minimise the risk of the family coming into contact with others.

“I visited their home to treat the baby on their doorstep and give the parent’s
further advice through the door.

“The parents were very relieved that we were able to help as they were worried no one would be able to see them due to their circumstances.

“While we are currently not permitted to provide routine eye examinations until further notice, we remain open for emergency care.

“Even for those in self-isolation, we are still here for you if you have an urgent eye health issue and we will do our best to treat you in the safest way possible.”

Key workers can walk into local stores for immediate assistance.

Others should call 0141 772 5467 for essential and emergency eye care.
