A wee taste of events lined up to sample and enjoy in 2016

Well, there's lots going on in Scotland in 2016 '“ festivals, films, food and drink, arts and architecture, sport and showbiz '“ there's something for everyone. Every month there's something new, so why not check out some of these great events?

January 14-31:
Celtic Connections, Glasgow

Scotland’s biggest city’s annual folk, roots and world music festival, Celtic Connections celebrates Celtic music and its connections to cultures across the globe. This January, 2,100 musicians from around the world will descend on Glasgow and bring the city to life for 18 days of concerts, ceilidhs, talks, art exhibitions, workshops, and free events. Celtic Connections is programmed by artistic director (and founding member of Capercaillie) Donald Shaw, and features more than 300 events across multiple genres of music.

February 6:Rugby, Scotland V England, Murrayfield

This will be Scotland’s first game since the Rugby World Cup and they will be looking to build on their improved performance, which saw them take Australia to the wire in the quarter-finals. After bowing out at the Pool stage of the Rugby World Cup, England will be out to prove themselves when they come to BT Murrayfield. Expect an explosive start to the Championship as both sides will be determined to get off to a winning start and lift the Calcutta Cup.

February 17-28: 
Glasgow Film Festival

Festival Of Architecture, Nationwide

The Festival of Architecture will be an international celebration of design, set to boost the appreciation of Scotland’s built environment, with more than 400 exciting events and exhibitions taking place the length and breadth of Scotland throughout 2016, managed by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. The headline programme for the festival will be announced later this year.

March 10-24: 
Glasgow International Comedy Festival

Top comedy stars from around the UK and beyond will be coming just to entertain you, only to realise the Scottish money they’ve been paid in can only be spent in this country and that they can never go home again! They’ll be complemented by the very best of homegrown Scottish talent for a comedy extravaganza – Europe’s largest comedy festival.

April 21 and 24:

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Aberdeen And Glasgow

The former Oasis legend brings his world tour to Scotland for two shows full of rock ’n roll anthems.

May 20-29: 
Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival

The festival delivers a vibrant programme of good quality contemporary theatre, a strong classical music programme, with a mix of dynamic folk music.

A programme that includes artists from around Scotland and further afield, to sit alongside some of the region’s internationally renowned artists and developing artists.

June 15-26:

Edinburgh International Film Festival

Showcases of international films around Edinburgh. Plus, workshops, talks and awards.

July 8-10:

T In The Park, Strathallan Castle, Perthshire

T in the Park is Scotland’s biggest music event – and this year it’s bigger and better than ever. The Stone Roses have already been announced as headliners, with more big acts to be announced soon.

August 5-29: 
Edinburgh Fringe Festival

The largest arts festival in the world, it takes place every August for three weeks in Edinburgh. Every year thousands of performers take to hundreds of stages all over Edinburgh to present shows for every taste.

In 2015 there were 50,459 performances of 3,314 shows in 313 venues, making it one of the largest arts festivals in the world.

September 3-4:

Loch Lomond Food And Drink Festival

Live cookery demonstrations and bake offs, street food and freshly picked produce, seafood, meats, hand made sweet treats, oils, sauces and every taste treat you can imagine from Scotland and around the world.

October 1-30: 
The Enchanted Forest, Pitlochry

A stunning sound and light show that transforms Faskally Wood using dazzling visuals and innovative design, set against an original score.

November 11:

Football, England V Scotland

Scotland travel to Wembley to take on the Auld Enemy in their 2018 World Cup qualifier. The return match will be on Saturday June 10, 2017 at Hampden Park.

December 15 -31:

Wee Food Tour, Glasgow

The Wee Food Tour welcomes guests from all over the world to sample the vast array of Scottish food in Glasgow. Covering the West End, East End and Merchant City in Glasgow, visit six independent restaurants and sample over 20 foods and snacks all made, produced and eaten in Scotland.
