Around 30 volunteers helped to tidy a number of areas of the town and around 40 bags of rubbish were collected.

Civic Society chairman Hamish Neilson said: “This is the first time that the Civic Society has run this type of event and we were overwhelmed at the support it received. This shows the people in Biggar take real pride in their town! We would like to thank South Lanarkshire Council and Keep Scotland Beautiful for providing equipment and to Biggar Kirk for giving us use of St Mary’s Hall.”

There was a prize draw for children who took part in the litter pick. The £10 Amazon voucher was won by Lucas Cunningham.
