Carluke is set for Jam and Ham Festival

CARLUKE’S Jam and Ham Festival is just days away and a series of events have been organised that locals will lap up.

The festival kicks-off in earnest on Thursday night at the Lifestyles Centre with the Jam and Ham Combo.

Introduced by Johnny Muldoon, the show will feature singer-songwriter Amie Aitken, saxophonist Jennifer Park and fiddler Sean Allan.

Kirkton Players will perform a one-act play closely followed by a varied set from Carluke Primrose Orchestral Flutes. Carluke Amateur Operatic Society will also perform songs from their upcoming South Pacific show.

Before that The Jolly Beggars will entertain in the Lifestyles Centre and Carluke Library will host a Jammy Afternoon from 2pm to 2pm, which includes a jam-making demonstration with all raffle proceeds going to the Clydesdale Food Bank.

On Friday afternoon the town’s school choirs will be performing in a showcase while on Friday evening Street Level will host a battle of the bands for youngsters and the town’s pubs will be packed full of various acts.

The main event takes place on Saturday with the Carluke Jamboree at St Athanasius Community Hall and Ramsay’s Courtyard.

There will be taster sessions, craft stalls and live music under a marquee.

The Jamboree will also include the town’s Jampionships and Bake Off.

There are 15 categories for contestants to sink their teeth into with judges from R&W Scott and Clark’s The Bakers. Competition is sure to be fierce.

The final award ceremony will take place at 2pm with various prizes being donated by a number of local businessess.

The weekend will be brought to a close on Saturday night with more jamming sessions in a number of Carluke pubs.
