Christina Murray wins Queen’s Award

The 17-year-old, who is a member of 1st Carluke Girls Brigade, was presented with her award by former Church of Scotland Moderator The Very Reverend Lorna Hood at the ceremony held at Glasgow Science Centre.

To complete her work for the award, Christina carried out six months of voluntary service within the local community working as a coach for Law & District Athletics Club.

She also had to sit and pass a General Study paper where questions are asked on National Government including the Scottish Parliament, Local Government, the Monarchy, the European Community, the United Nations Organisation and Human Rights.

Then Christina was required to complete a written illustrated project with a minimum of 6000 words.

The topic Christina chose was very personal to her as it was about the life of her great-grandfather Sergeant William Beverley who died during active service in World War Two.
