Close shave for ‘Afro’ Tam

The fun night saw Condorrat man Tam Fitzimmons, 58, shed the magnificent head of curly hair he’s had for more than 40 years in order to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Care – in memory of his friend Bobby McLaren, who died of bowel cancer in 2007.

On the same night William Hill bookie’s worker Sam Shields, 39, from Seafar, also had her hair cut for charity, in memory of a friend who died from breast cancer.

And also joining in – to raise cash for Teenage Cancer Care – was Tam’s son Brendan.

In what was described as a fantastic night revellers bought tickets for a raffle whose top prize was a brace of ringside seats for the forthcoming Still Game show at the Hydro.

The three originally aimed to raise around £3,000, but the total – with money still coming in – is thought to be closer to £4,000.

Tam said: “We would like to thank all of the individuals and businesses who helped make the fundraiser such a success.
