Gardens are judged on quality of floral display, quality of permanent planting, quality of design and use of space and contribution to the visual environment.

Whatever its shape or size, the council want to see lots of tenants entering their gardens. Prizes of £50 high street vouchers are up for grabs for winners, together with a certificate of success.

There is an award for the Best Individual Garden and a Neighbourhood Award, where neighbours make a combined effort to improve communal areas.

The competition is free to enter and is open to all North Lanarkshire council tenants in each of the six housing areas – including Moodiesburn, Kilsyth and Cumbernauld.

Judging will take place in August and the winners will be announced at the annual Tenant Conference later in the year.
