Dig in and grow for it with garden contest

Time is running out for green-fingered tenants wanting to enter their gardens North Lanarkshire Council’s annual garden awards.

Tenants are being asked to put the finishing touches to their gardens to make sure their entries are received by Friday, August 2.

The ‘Your Garden Awards’ recognise the dedication, passion and hard work of tenants in improving their gardens.

Gardens are judged on quality of floral display, quality of permanent planting, quality of design and use of space and contribution to the visual environment.

Whatever its shape or size, the council want to see lots of tenants entering their gardens. Prizes of £50 high street vouchers are up for grabs for winners, together with a certificate of success.

There is an award for the Best Individual Garden and a Neighbourhood Award, where neighbours make a combined effort to improve communal areas.

The competition is free to enter and is open to all North Lanarkshire council tenants in each of the six housing areas – including Moodiesburn, Kilsyth and Cumbernauld.

Mary Castles, executive director of housing and social work services said: “I’m always thrilled to see the results of months of hard work by our tenants and look forward to taking a look at this year’s entries.

“I would encourage as many of our tenants as possible to get involved and play their part in our garden awards.”

Judging will take place in August and the winners will be announced at the annual Tenant Conference later in the year.

Application forms are available at any First Stop Shop, housing office or visit www.northlan.gov.uk.
