In 2015 they finished 15th, 2016 they finished 12th and 2017 they finished at 11th and last year, 2018, they were delighted to make top 10 and placed ninth in the world and are hoping to continue their success this year.

With less than three weeks to go everyone is excited for this year’s ‘Journey to Worlds’.

A lot of hard work has been put into the choreography by coach Lisa Oxnard and the results are amazing.

The routine looks fantastic and all the girls have been training hard for at least three times a week since being picked for the team at the beginning of September last year.

The team has 14 members aged between 14 and 21, and three coaches.

Twelve of the girls have competed in Florida in previous years and the other two girls are new to the team.

Some members of the team are also competing with Team Scotland at the ICU competition, also in Orlando, a few days prior to the USASF competition.

The team, coaches and supporters, totalling more than 50 people, travel to Florida on Sunday, April 21.

They will have training sessions at the Spotlight dance studio in Orlando on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

On the Friday evening they will also practice on the Worlds stage in preparation for their section of the Worlds Finals starting on the Saturday.

The team has had a very busy few months fundraising with several different events including a hair raffle, bag packing, bingo night and its annual ball which had an auction/raffle, photo booth, sweetie cart, team performances and lots more.

The costs involved in the girls’ Journey to Worlds is expensive, so the fundraising has made a tremendous difference and the girls would like to thank everyone that has supported them.

The last event is a showcase where all the Phoenix Flames teams are dancing and the Elite team travelling to Florida will showcase their new costumes and the Worlds routine.

It takes place on Sunday, April 14, from 12.30-2.30pm in Carmichael Hall, Eastwood Park. Tickets are £5 for adults/£2.50 for children and include refreshments. These can be ordered from team members or bought on the door.

The girls in Elite would like to thank head coaches Karen Leitch and Lisa Oxnard for all they do for them as this would not be possible without their encouragement, training and commitment. They would also like to thank everyone at Phoenix Flames Cheerleaders and their parents for the continued support they give especially at every team outing and competitions.

Let the 2019 journey continue…
