Falls of Clyde Nature Notes

Events kick off with the New Lanark Circular Walk on Saturday, September 1. Starting from the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Visitor Centre in New Lanark at 10am, this walk will include the Falls of Clyde and Kirkfieldbank, finishing back at New Lanark for around 3pm. On route, the ranger will point out natural and historic features of the reserve.

Bats at Craignethan Castle takes place on Friday, September 7.

Starting at 7.30pm, the Historic Scotland ranger and Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve manager will reveal the secrets of this fascinating building, and explore the spectacular setting, looking for bugs, beasties and bats.

An exploration of the delightful Mouse Valley on Saturday, September 8, will reveal the abundance of wildlife that lives in Lanarkshire’s ancient forests. The guided walk will last from 11am to 3pm and include the Mouse falls, Cleghorn Glen and Cartland Crags. This event is run by Scottish Natural Heritage, so call 01555 665928 to book.

Join South Lanarkshire Council’s countryside rangers on a five mile walk of discovery from 1.30pm to 4pm on Sunday, September 9.

Take in the spectacular Dukes Bridge, Historic Cadzow Castle and the ancient Cadzow Oaks. Call Chatelherault Country Park on 01698 426213 to book.

The Falls of Clyde Moonlit Mammals event will be the final celebration, on Thursday, September 13. Starting at 7pm this walk will be the chance to experience the Falls of Clyde at night and learn about otters, bats and badgers. Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided!
