Billington's shortlisted in BBC Good Food Guide comp

Billington's delicatessen in Lenzie is hoping to regain its title of Glasgow's Best Independent Food Shop - after it was announced as one of the 10 shortlist in the BBC Good Food Show competition.

The deli owned and run by husband and wife team Mark and Sue Billington won the coveted prize in 2014 and 2015, but lost out last year to Roots, Fruits and Flowers.

Mark said: “We are hoping that this year will be our year again. It was disappointing to lose last year, but we are confident we can regain the title.”

The BBC Good Food Show Scotland team in conjunction with BBC Good Food Magazine have been scouring the city and outlying areas to find the very best independent food shops.

To get on the shortlist shops were voted for on Twitter and Instagram and the shop with the most votes in different areas go through to the shortlist.

The other shortlisted shops are: Demijohn, Eusebi deli, George Mewes Cheese’ Kimbles, Piece, Quality Vitamins and Herbs, Roots Fruits and Flowers, Tantrum Doughnuts and Locavore.

The winner will receive a free stand at the BBC Good Food Show Scotland at the SECC from November 4-6 to showcase their shop to thousands of food loving visitors.

BBC Good Food Senior Food Editor and Judge, Barney Desmazery, says: “Glasgow is a fantastic city with an amazing food scene and incredible local produce - I can’t wait to find this year’s winner.”
