Funding boost for local community groups

Three local community groups are celebrating a £794k cash boost, thanks to the generosity of National Lottery players.

A total of 115 groups, from Lerwick to Dumfries, are sharing in £794,384 from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland, which makes grants from £300 to £10,000 to voluntary and community groups across the country.

Bengali Performing Arts receieved £6,000 from Creative Scotland.

This group will use the funding to organise artistic performances across the south of Glasgow over the course of a year.

They will hire international, established performers to provide an engaging experience to the general public that will help bring people together to celebrate diverse cultures.

Eastwood Nursery Allotments Association will use Big Lottery Funding of £9,945 to improve accessibility at their existing allotment site.

They will also improve drainage, site infrastructure and create ten new allotment plots to meet demand.

West of Scotland Wheelchair Sports Club received £10,000 from Big Lottery Fund to develop their wheel chair basketball sessions held at St Ninian’s High Giffnock by running more wheelchair basketball training sessions at the weekend and during the day.

They will also use a better quality fit for purpose facility and hold more competitions.

A National Lottery Awards for All spokesman said: “This is National Lottery money in action, reaching into communities across Scotland making a real difference to the people who live there.

“The 115 groups receiving funding today showcases the range of projects that can be funded through this programme and the difference that the smallest amounts of money can make.”
