Highland Fling on what would have been Lanark Lanimer Day

Jings, crivens, help ma boab! Lanark lass Anya Scott-Rodgers and the Funbox gang are back in Lanark and having a hootenanny with their new show for 2017, Highland Fling.

And they have managed to move it to accommodate the change in the Lanimer date due to the general election.

“I couldn’t believe it when the date was announced!” laughs Anya.

“I’ve grown up in a Lanimer family and it was a moment of ‘Do they not know what we do up here?!’.

“I’m so glad the committee and town have pulled together to sort it.”

It’s been non stop for Funbox since their first show in 2015 and now the former Singing Kettle trio are embarking on their ninth tour in two years.

When it was clear that the Singing Kettle was not for sale, Gary, Anya and Kevin took their first steps into business. The gang admit they were having far too much fun to say goodbye.

“We wanted to carry on, not just for us but the kids and the parents and grandparents who wanted to bring their children along,” said Anya, who honed her theatre skills in Lanark treading the boards in the Memorial Hall with Lanark Panto Club, ICE and LAMS.

“It seemed like too important a thing to let go.”

Funbox offers the well-loved traditional songs and silliness but with manic humour with a modern twist.

Take the high road (or the low road) and get roamin’ in the gloamin’ for the crazy new show, Highland Fling, with silliness and songs galore.

“Here’s hoping there’s a few big people in their finest kilts and tam o’shanters for this one!” laughed Kevin.
