Homebuilders help youngsters saddle up

A £500 bursary will support Glasgow Riderz, a youth cycling club which provides coaching in a safe, traffic-free environment for people aged 7-18.

The club provides weekend coaching varying from core skills, mountain biking, cyclo-cross and track cycling at Bellahouston Park.

Pete Shuttleworth of Glasgow Riderz said: “The club is extremely grateful to CALA Homes (West) for their generous donation. The financial support will enable us to grow the club and make a significant contribution to the lives of young people in the area.

“The club currently is at full capacity and the extra money will help towards training more coaches.”

Louise Dunn at CALA Homes (West) said: “The variety of applications we received for our bursary funding served as a timely reminder of the incredible work charities and organisations across Glasgow are doing.

“The work Glasgow Riderz does within the community to support children and promote an active lifestyle through cycling makes it a worthy recipient of the bursary.”

Other successful applicants to benefit from the bursary initiative were Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland West Area, Whizz-Kidz Glasgow Club, Building Futures and Hillhead Hockey Club in Jordanhill.

Glasgow was one of three regions identified by CALA Homes to receive £5,000 across the West of Scotland with £15,000 given out in the last year.
