Horse defends her home town of Lanark

IT was the Lanark of the past the town’s cult rock star Horse McDonald attacked in the national press and not the Lanark of today.

This was the 54-year-old singer’s explanation for her scathing comments in recent tabloid coverage of her civil parnership wedding ceremony in which she claimed to have been “driven out” of Lanark in the 1970s because of her homosexuality.

The daughter of the respected late Councillor Dugald McDonald asked the Gazette this week to put the record straight on her remarks about the small town mentality she claims hounded her out.

She points to the fact that the wedding between herself and long-time partner Alanna was held at the New Lanark Mill Hotel as proof that she realsises that Lanark today is a very different place with very different attitudes.
