It’s the word: hopelessly devoted to 50s musical

GREASE is the word once again for the talented kids at Harlequin Eastwood Theatre for Youth.

The East Ren troupe last staged the musical back in 1992 (and before that in 1985), although presumably the casts of those productions have grown up and moved on.

Luckily, the professional UK tour is taking a break for the start of 2014 — which means that amateur groups are able to bring Danny and Sandy back to the local stage.

Better yet, there’s a reunion on for the ‘85 and ‘92 casts.

As for the plot — well, we’re all familiar with the goings on at Rydell High.

It’s a step back in time to the rocking and rolling 50s, and Sandy has just transferred to a new school and rediscovered her holiday romance — but the course of true love doesn’t run quite as smoothly post Summer Loving.

All the songs are there, from Hopelessly Devoted to You’re the One That I Want — and of course, Greased Lightning — and this is one show where the young cast are bound to have as much fun with the material as the audiences singing along. There are over 40 youngsters from Harlequin’s senior section (from S4 age up to 21) involved, and they’re revving and raring to get on the Eastwood Park stage.

All that’s left now is to buy your tickets — there are worse things you could do.

Grease runs at Eastwood Park Theatre March 19-22, 7.30pm performance plus a 2.30 Sat mat.

Tickets are £10-£14 from 577 4956, [email protected] or www.eastwoodparktheatre.co.uk.
