Jane Crawford creates New Lanark album

The combined photographic album/music CD has been produced by Jane Crawford who has a deep ancestral connection to the World Heritage Village which has inspired her to spread the New Lanark ‘message’ to New York in the spring.

Already a musician and tireless fundraiser for the Braveheart-inspired Wallace’s Weans charity, Jane recently added another string to her bow by qualifying with an HND in Photography.

She has already put her talents to good use, capturing some stunning pictures of New Lanark, collated into a photo album, accompanied by the CD of traditional songs which generations of the mill workers there would have loved and sung.

She had plenty of inside information on life and work in New Lanark in its industrial heyday from within her own family.

She explained: “As part of my HND course work, I had to do a documentary book and I chose New Lanark as it is a very special place to me.

“My grandmother, also Jane Crawford, nee Lindsay, was one of the oldest surviving mill workers when she pasased away at the age of 91 in January last year.

“My granddad and her husband William, also 91, is still alive and well. He was the coalman at New Lanark, where he first met my grandmother.”
