John at the Avenue

FANS flocked to The Avenue shopping centre last week to catch a glimpse of the multi-talented John Barrowman.

The Glasgow-born, American-twanged actor, singer, dancer, musical theatre performer, writer and television personality (have we missed anything?) was in Newton Mearns to promote the latest string to his bow — his second novel.

John appeared at the Avenue’s Waterstones store to sign copies of Bone Quill, co-written with sister Carole Barrowman, who also paid a visit.

The book is a sequel to the first Barrowman joint effort, Hollow Earth — a young adult fantasy story following the adventures of twins Matt and Emily Calder.

The TV personality, who played Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who as well as the spin-off, Torchwood, caused a hold-up at the centre as hundreds of fans queued up to have their copy signed.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “This was without question the most successful book event we’ve ever hosted.

“We had over 700 enthusiastic fans flock to the mall eager to meet John and Carole in the flesh and snap up their exciting new book.

“There was a great atmosphere in the mall this week and, already, we are
planning to welcome many other
celebrity authors over the coming months.”
