Kirkfieldbank’s Julie Johnstone is muddy good!

It may have been mud glorious mud on the Tough Mudder challenge, but Julie Johnstone faced other terrors in her quest for charity.

Julie (40), who hails from Kirkfieldbank, underwent the 12 mile assault course with 19 obstacles to help raise money for Diabetes UK in memory of her cousin Steven Johnstone from Crossford.

Julie tried out Tough Mudder for the first time last year and was proud to have completed the course. When her cousin Steven died last November, age 37, she decided to return to the challenge, this time in tribute to Steven.

The obstacles included jumping into a skip full of ice water and the final obstacle of fire in the hole which involved a large jump.

She may have hesitated but determination and thoughts of her cousin came to the rescue.

Julie said: “It was so different this year, I felt I was doing it for something meaningful.”

She raised £851, thanks to support from work colleagues, and sponsorship gained by her sister Avril Johnstone from her workmates at Renshaw Scott. And there was great support from the Crossford community where Steven lived with his parents June and Robert.

Julie said: “I cannot believe the generosity that I have experienced for this charity project. The people of Crossford were fantastic.”
