Meet Finlay’s match

The Matchmaker by Kerryman John B Keane will be performed on Friday, April 12 in what is the first stop of a new mini tour, following a successful show at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Splinters Productions, a small theatre company which draws members from across Scotland, garnered four star reviews for the show which puts the focus on a hotch-potch of lonely hearts in the rural town of Ballyberra.

Director Finlay McLean is certainly versatile - for the East Kilbride man also plays a host of comic characters, in a move that’s gone down a storm.

“We always get a great reaction, whether we’ve taken it to the Eden Court Theatre in Inverness or the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh. It’s a real hit with slightly more mature audiences who have experienced a bit of the rough and tumble of life,” said Finlay

“It’s classic Irish humour that’s quite broad in the vein of Mrs Brown’s Boys,” he added.

Finlay is fascinated by the process by which Keane wrote the piece - which was originally in book form.

“He was a publican and he got all his ideas by listening to what people talked about in his pub. When they went home, he started to write,” he added.
