More improvements to Biggar’s Burnbraes Park

Friends of Burnbraes raised over £28,000 to buy a play house for younger children and a trim trail obstacle course, as well as improving the drainage and surfacing under existing equipment.

Funding came from the Clyde Windfarm Community Fund, National Lottery Awards for All and South Lanarkshire Council as well as local fundraising by the Friends.

Piper Fearghus Thompson led the children into the park and Anna cut a ribbon to open the equipment.

Janet Moxley, Chair of the Friends, said: “It was wonderful that children from Biggar Primary were able to join us for the official launch of this equipment as they helped to choose what was installed.

“Friends of Burnbraes have been working hard for a couple of years now to get funding for this project and it is great to see everything installed.

“It have been bit of a long haul as finalising funding took longer than we had hoped so the equipment installation which we had hoped would happen last summer was delayed until late autumn, and then the winter weather put a stop to the work for several months, so it was April before the work was complete.

“However it has been worth the wait and we hope that children from Biggar at beyond enjoy using this equipment for many years.

“We would like to thank our funders, the council for their support and everyone who has contributed time or money to make this possible.”
