As well as learning more about the project, which aims to take foreign languages out into the community and make them part of children’s daily lives, those attending got a taste of what is to come.

Language packs have been issued to businesses supporting the move, with signs inviting customers to Like them on Facebook, or push and pull open doors, in up to seven languages.

This month there is a pet treasure hunt, with pictures of animals displayed, and the children – those from around a dozen schools are invited to take part – then encouraged to spot them and name them in a foreign language.

Look around the shops and see if you can catch them - and get your Gazette on Wednesday for more details and photos of the launch.
