It’s teddy bears galore thanks to Clarkston and Giffnock Knitting for All group

If you’d gone down to Costa at Clarkston Toll on Wednesday, May 8, you’d have been in for a big surprise! Although it wasn’t a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, there were plenty of bears to be seen.

The bears were knitted by members of the Knitting For All: Clarkston & Giffnock class, run by knitting tutor Helen Howard. The group meets on Wednesday mornings, 1-11.30am, in the Costa coffee shop at Clarkston Toll.

The ladies have been busy knitting Comfort Bears in response to an appeal by Scottish charity Children 1st, and welcomed Children 1st chairman, Dr Ken Cunningham, to present the bears to him. Ken spoke of the Children 1st appeal to provide Comfort Bears to Police Scotland to support children who have been affected by crime. The bears donated by this class will go to police stations in the Greater Glasgow area.

The class has also donated items to other charities, including Twiddlemuffs for Care Home residents with Dementia; poppies for a Remembrance display at Greenbank Church, Clarkston; and teddies, butterflies and blankets for SIMBA, which provides memory boxes for bereaved parents.

Helen’s classes are now in their second year, and are open to all levels of knitter and crocheted, including beginners. For more details, contact Helen Howard on [email protected] or visit their Facebook page – KnittingForAll:ClarkstonandGiffnock.
