Prestigious award for two Williamwood High pupils

Grace Allan and Eilidh Bruce, who go to Williamwood High School, received a Diana Award at a ceremony at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

The awards programme was established in 1999 in memory of Diana Princess of Wales, who believed “young people have the power to change the world”.

Both Grace and Eilidh were nominated by Netherlee and Stamperland Rainbow Unit.

Grace, 15, volunteers every week at Rainbows and was praised for “always arriving with a positive attitude and ready to give an incredible experience for all children in her care”.

She also goes “the extra mile to support further opportunities such as day trips”. Without her, “full sessions may not run and the number of girls who could attend would be limited”.

Eilidh, 16, was described as “a positive role model” to the Guides she works with, “resulting in many of them seeking her advice, guidance and insight”. She works closely “with those who struggle to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed”.

Eilidh’s hard work has led to her being asked to be an official young leader with a view to taking over the lead role in the future.

“They do this with no anticipation of reward or accolade, instead they are driven by a desire to see a better, fairer world.”
