Scottish Run is a family affair for Ann

Ann Bonner is leading three generations of her family to take on this year’s run and the 56-year-old is running the half marathon alongside her son Andrew, 32, and daughter Melissa, 27.

Her 10-year-old grandson Alan will be taking part in the junior run.

Ann said: “I was motivated to sign-up by my family as I was always watching them from the side lines whilst they took part in races.

“I thought I would take up the challenge myself and joined in the 10k last year. This year I decided to set myself a bigger goal and take-on the half marathon.

“It is great that there are three generations of our family taking part in the events across the weekend. I was really into running about ten years ago but had to give it up due to injury, and if it wasn’t for my family encouraging me to get back into it I wouldn’t be in this position now.

“I would encourage anyone who is thinking of taking part this year to just challenge yourself and do it. I really love the lift running gives you, especially when you go out and push yourself and run that extra mile, you feel so great afterwards.”

The Great Scottish Run will once again be supported by Bank of Scotland, which this year is celebrating its 10th year as partner.

With the Toddler Dash, Junior Run and Family Mile taking place on Super Saturday, September 29, and both the 10k and half marathon on the Sunday, up to 30,000 runners of all ages and abilities are expected to take part.
