40 candles on the cake for southside housing complex

The sheltered housing complex in Pollokshaws marked the occasion with performances by southside band Swifty and magician Steven Dick.

Anita Lowing, supported housing manager at the Shawholm Crescent unit, told The Extra: ‘’We are very forward thinking and have moved on from the traditional sheltered housing.

“We provide housing support but the criteria for that is loose — it’s not about personal care, but about helping people maintain their 
independence.

“There are lots of changes happening continually to ensure that the service we provide is up to date.”

The housing association is hosting numerous parties from May to August in residences throughout Scotland, involving as many tenants as possible to mark 40 years of service provision.

A non-profit provider, the Trust was initially founded in 1973, as the Kirk Care Housing Association.

The organisation now caters to over 2,500 residents in developments across the country.

Residents of the southside branch were actively involved in the big day, choosing how they wanted to celebrate — and, everyone was treated to a big birthday cake, courtesy of the association’s catering team.

Funding the day’s entertainment was a donation from Glasgow city council, which offered £250 in celebration of the milestone anniversary.

Anita added: “All the residents seem to be enjoying themselves, and we hope it’s a memorable day for them.

“We would also like to thank Glasgow city council for donating towards our event.”
