A happy Holi at Rouken Glen

Rouken Glen Park was a riot of colour on Sunday as Holi, and the Spring Colours Festival, finally arrived for Glasgow and East Renfrewshire.

Usually celebrated in March, the Hindu festival brings people together for a celebration of the season and a colour fight.

The event was pushed forward to accommodate the great Scottish weather — and it paid off for revellers, as the rain stayed at bay (at least until the colours had flown).

The day was organised by the Glasgow University Hindu Society, East Renfrewshire Hindu Society and East Renfrewshire Council, councillor Paul O’Kane speaking at the ceremony before the first official colours were thrown by Eastwood MSP Ken Macintosh and the new MP for East Renfrewshire, Kirsten Oswald.

Pupils from St Ninian’s High were among those painting a rainbow, having spent the afternoon raising money for the Betty Cunningham Trust, and children in Malawi.
