Adam Dunnet (23) from Kersland Drive, Milngavie, is in the final year of his Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Glasgow.

He plans to join a group of 14 students from Glasgow University to trek up to Everest south base camp and Kala Patthar in the Nepalese Himalayas this August to raise cash for Childreach International.

Everest is located in the Mahalangur mountain range in Nepal and Tibet. Its peak is 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level.

Adam said: “None of us have very much (if any) mountaineering experience and so I do not doubt that this will be the hardest challenge I have ever faced.

“Childreach International operates in seven countries across the world helping disadvantaged children to reach their full potential in life.

“I strongly believe that no child should have less opportunity because of where they are born.

“One of Childreach International’s key focus areas of late is Nepal, as a result of the devastating earthquakes.”

Childreach is the only non-government organisation which has been granted permission to build schools in Nepal.

The first one opened last month, which means that children have the opportunity to return to a somewhat normal life again.

Adam added: “I’m covering my own expenses for the trip so that every penny donated goes to the charity and the fantastic work they do.”

The University of Glasgow student has set himself a personal target to raise £3,000 and every penny will go to Childreach International.

Childreach International also works in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the UK.
