Adult learners celebrate success

More than 40 adult learners were celebrated at a learner achievement celebration in the William Patrick Library recently.

The adults were taking part in a number of pioneering courses offered by East Dunbartonshire Council and community partners.

To honour the learners achievements, certificates were issued to 20 of them for completing various courses on offer, including: The Moving Ahead Reading Challenge; SQA English for Speakers of other Languages; SQA Communications and Numeracy.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie congratulated all the participants as she presented them with their certificates.

She said: “It was so encouraging to see so many adult learners at the celebration and I would like to congratulate them on their achievements. They should all be proud of how far they have come and this event was a great way of acknowledging the achievements of those who have taken part in our adult learning programmes. These courses are great ways for people to gain new skills that will greatly help in applying for a job.”

A number of book reviews completed by participants were also read out during the event.

Councillor Geekie added,”It was nice to hear the book reviews that some of the learners produced. This celebration and the range of achievements demonstrated here should remind us all that it is never too late to learn.”
