Air ambulance called to Elvanfoot crash

Around 3.45pm officers were called to a report of a crash involving one car – a Mazda 323 – which had been travelling northbound on the A702, approximately one mile south of the junction with Station Road, Elvanfoot when it appears to have gone out of control and then overturned.

Emergency services attended and the 54-year-old driver and his two rear seat passengers, a 67-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man were taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries then released.

A 40-year-old man, who had been the front seat passenger, was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he is being treated for his injuries.

Hospital staff on Tuesday described his condition as serious.

Enquiries are taking place into the cause of the accident and Sergeant Stewart Dyer from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Motherwell is urging any witnesses to the crash to contact his office on 101.
