All aboard for the Eaglesham Fair

Eaglesham Fair is back, bigger than ever and boasting a bumper food and drink strand next month.

The village event was last held in 2013 and returns on Saturday, June 6 from 11am-5pm.

This year has an All Things Scottish theme, with fancy dress encouraged for the opening parade.

There’s a special guest too, in the form of 1962 fair queen Jay Barr (nee Lorimer) who will return to the stage to take part in the crowning ceremony.

Geoff Greenlaw, organising committee chairman, said: “The committee have tried to organise a wide variety of rides and attractions so that each and every group is catered for, with nobody missing out. One of the highlights will be the view from our big wheel — our very own Eaglesham Eye for the day.”

The 1st Troon BB Pipe Band and the Absurdist Pipe Band are on the billing, as well as a chainsaw and wood carving demonstration by artist Hamish Maxwell, and plenty of activities for little ones.

As reported in The Extra, June 6 will also see the first Eaglesham Beer Festival setting up stall alongside the fair.

Beer fest organiser Fraser Wilson commented: “Eaglesham is an idyllic place — why not showcase the village and the best of Scottish produce at the same time?”

There’s plenty going on in the lead-up too, as the fun kicks off for Eaglesham residents this Sunday with a car treasure hunt, followed by a history walk on June 2 and a senior citizens tea dance at Montgomerie Hall on June 5.
