‘ALL-IN’ CALL TO HELP END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

An extensive survey has been launched by Glasgow City Council to get to the heart of violence and negative attitudes towards women.

It will be the first ever project of its kind to be carried out by a Scottish local authority and aims to help formulate a citywide strategy.

The Glasgow Violence Against Women Partnership (GVAWP) is leading the survey as part of a “Sixteen Days of Action initiative that will run until Wednesday, December 10 — International Human Rights Day — and encourages as many as possible to get involved.

GVAWP chair, councillor James Coleman said at the launch of the programme of events: “Although our work privdes evidence of the lack of public knowledge on the dangers of violence against women, such ass how to spot potential domestic abuse within other relationships, it doesn’t provide us with the statistical data and factual analysis that we need to improve our services.”

He added: “We need as many people from all walks of life to take part in the survey in a crucial step towards an
end to violence against women.”
