David Lloyd West End club in Anniesland is carrying out a £750,000 refurbishment and they plan to convert one of their three squash courts into a spin bike studio. However, members are angry that they were not consulted.

David Mazzucco from Bearsden, said: “The change is not in the member’s interests but we think it’s also bad for the club. There are a number of other places nearby offering spin classes at a fraction of the cost.

“Spin and gym members are notoriously fickle, they stay at clubs until they find a better deal. Racquets members show much more loyalty, many have been members since this club opened.

“They are willing to commit to the club in the long term, however about 30 of them will leave if this goes ahead.

“This is the beginning of the end for squash at this club and we’d urge David Lloyd to look at other options.”

A spokesperson for David Lloyd said: “We explored all options with regards to the design and location of the studio but unfortunately were unable to create an alternative scheme that would still provide three squash courts.

“We are confident that we can continue to offer squash to many of our members and will be enhancing the remaining courts during the coming months.

“We try to communicate changes as early possible. This did not happen in this case, and for that we sincerely apologise.”
